Renderfist Fanexpo Photos

Oh man what a crazy couple of days.

I want to thank my table mates at Renderfist for being so patient with me.
Craig Adams , Charlene Chua, Ted Kim, Sanford Kong, Hilary Leung
I was a bit stressed out the first day, making sure everyone got their passes, and finding enough chairs ( someone stole our chair!).

I think it was probably the nonstop bunch of laughs. Although it was terribly draining. I'm exhausted but I'm back to work today.
I'm updating this blog between drawings.

After reviewing the last few days, all I can think of is the non stop of laughs. Although it was terribly draining (how does Bobby Chiu and Kei and his crew do it?). I'm exhausted but I'm back to work today.
I'm updating this blog between drawings.

We had some cool cats around our table. And did some balloon volleyball... people around us like
Jason Loo, Evan Munday and Mark Mcdonnell who sat behind us, FYI he's a DISNEY ANIMATOR!!!!! flew from LA for Fanexpo!).

I think we had lot of energy at our table, talking to each other and the attendees at the Fanexpo.

Some really memorable quotes from the top of my mind (I won't reveal the names so I don't embarrass anybody exclusively).

First quote
Renderfist Rep 3- " Hey you like C*****s, N****s, and B***s right?" to patron
patron "Uh no"
Renderfist Rep 3 "then you like girls right?" Points to prints done by "Renderfist Rep 2"
patron -confused and stunned " uhhh...."

Second Quote
Patron 1 is holding book and wondering if they should by it.

Renderfist rep 3 -" Look at this book, I worked on this. I laboured on this. This is my baby!!!!"

Renderfist rep 1 quickly jumps in "YES! YOU CAN HAVE HIS BABY!!! Don't you want his Baby!!!"

Patron Stunned.. and laughs

Third Quote
Conversation goes on with Renderfist rep1 + 2 + 3.
Renderfist rep 4 "hey did you just say smoke free ovaries"

Day 1

One of the happy faces that I was first to recognise was Marvin Law He also happens to be.... I forget how we're related? Either very distant family or friend of the family... I have no idea.. but its a complicated story and It's too long to write about it.

here's pics of us below setting up the table

Craig Yeung
who came running over to find us to say Hello
I managed to stop by Craig's table to say Hello to Logan Luberia and Lisa Luberia they still look the same).

The rest of the day was just trying to get settled in to the con. I was amazed how busy it was. I havn't been to Fanexpo in 10, I had no idea how big it grew!

Day 2
This day was interesting. It was really packed and packed Fast!
with our Exhibition pass we were able to skip a long line up.
I was informed by long time Rick Lapointe and his Girl friend Sam that the line up was 2 3 hrs waiting time to get in the exhibition. Silly me forgot to take a pic of these cool cats. They went out of their way to find me first thing when they got there!
You guys rock!

Ted helping setup Sanford's portfolio. (The very Mysterious Sanford!)

Ted and some friends.

One of the coolest ladies that came by the booth.
She had this really cool shirt!
Not only did she come by once... I think total she came by 4 or 5 times total during the whole convention.
For a moment I assumed she was a stalker... until she happily decided to buy some prints from me on the last day at the last hour.

A little bit of a view of the expo

managed to get Some crazy Cosplay. I've seen cosplay on the net.. but I've never really seen it happen in real life. some really crazy and well put together costume. thats really hardcore fandom.
Here's some that passed by our table

In the early morning before the exhibition we quickly ran around to meet the other artists, we ran into the talented Hyein lee
She was so incredibly sweet, she later ran over to our table at the end of the day and gave us these sweet buttons!

We also got to meet Mark Rehkoph
also would like to say Thanks to Ferd Poblete
who came by every day to say hi in the morning and afternoon to share some cool demon girl drawings.

Day of Fanexpo + old art.

Only a few more hours till fanexpo starts...
kind of getting antsy.. and trying to cram in some work before the show.

Ok before Fragbot... I thought I would squeeze in a backup art piece in case I couldn't finish.

I thought I would do a homage to old 60's poster art and lay in some graphic design elements.
Ohmygod shes wearing skimpy clothes?

I was aiming for some pinup style art to sell ( using extensive "market research" to determine what will sell well of course ).
But images of Raging feminists and angry mom's haunted my mind so I decided not to include this in my Prints for sale line up. (actually i think full colour art work will sell better).

But that won't stop me from posting the image on the internet.

Remember drop by Table A20 at Fanexpo!

Renderfist, Fanexpo Prints

Well only a few days left for Fanexpo.
My table mates at Renderfist, are ready to go.

We put together this video showcasing some prints that we will be selling there.
Hope to see you there
Table A20.

Just a side note, I'm totally swamped. I'm working as hard as I can before fanexpo (I can't see myself doing much work between those 3 days). I'll give you a heads up, Sept will have a serious lack of art updates from me.

BUT, I will still posts any fun and wacky stuff.

Getter Robo! Chibi SD Fewture edition

Getter Robo! (I'll be posting a colour video of this soon... just rendering it now, so Stayed Tuned)

I have been aching to do some fan art of one of my favorite Anime of all time. Getter Robo.
I grew up with it as a kid.
Opening for the show
(actually more specifically Starvengers, aka Getter Robo G).

A few years back Fewture did a restyling by the late great Taku Sato.(I wrote a toy review it back in 2006)

Years later, they've done a reissue of it. I thought I would do a homage of Fewture Getter as a Chibi Super Distort figure (no they don't have one of that yet). But why not imagine what it looks like.

If youw ant to see a Time Lasped Video of me colouring...
here you go.
Double click the video if you would like to see it in High Def.

Ok finally complete, and none too soon.
I managed to finish this afternoon before work got heavy again.
I threw in one shot between the final.
If you're wondering why there's two versions.
Well one of them is for a art submission for a book.
Second one I'll be making prints for the Toronto Fan Expo (make sure you drop by and say hi).

I'll be coming up with a more thorough step by step in Early August.

I managed to get a bit ahead this week, and allowed sometime to socialize a little bit. It's good to go out and catch up with friends.
I spent Sunday to get back to doing some artwork(oh the guilt).
I'm so close to finishing this piece.

I just have the background to do.
I'll be working on a step by step when this project is complete.

Alan Moore and the Watchmen

Quick summary on Watchmen.
comic : loved it
movie : loved it.

Alan Moore
Comic : loved it
movie : hates it.

I mean he recognizes it to be one of his best pieces. But he hates the Hollywood medium of his works. He refuses to see it. Which is too bad. I thought it was pretty respectful of his work. I really believed it was going to be hard one to translate. But it was done really well.

So anyways here's this video.

Joust WIP 5

managed to throw up some colours.
Guess what still not done this part. I still have to add some colour reflections, as well as vary up the colours in the highlights and shadows.

It's going to be a while before I update maybe 26th of july or so. I have to meet my second deadline. Thankfully my third and fourth deadline is a long way off, so I can finish it off by the end of this month.

Friday, July 17, 2009

Joust WIP 4

Just another update.
The progress is slow. I have to finish this piece by 31st.
But I also have to hit all my deadlines for work(thats a lot of drawings. 100 roughs finished, 100 more to go). So I'm trying to wedge updates as soon as I can.

Remote Mechagodzilla 1974

Totally under my radar. Looks like its been released for sometime.
Robot figures are probably dear to my heart. I think its something I grew up with.
Mecha Godzilla happens to be one of those things I grew up with.

This is the rendition of the 1974 Mecha Godzilla

But clearly this is one remote control robot that beats anything I've seen hands down.

It's only avaiable in japan (with a hefty price tag)

here's a actual commercial for it

Nerf herders + Olivia Munn

saw this over at Kotaku.

pretty catchy. I havn't herd Nerf Herders do anything new in a while.

Doesn't hurt that Olivia Munn is in it.
totally targeting the gamers.

Joust WIP 3

Just a bit of a update.
I should have posted this on the weekend. I've been swamped.
But here's what I done for the next part of the elements. On my list to do is highlights, colour and then putting the two elements together in a piece and background to tie it all together. I'll be writing a more thorough step by step. wish I had more time to go through everything now.

The line drawing

Mid tones

Darker tones

The next is highlights and colours

I did some work for Wizard of the West Coast, via Empty room studio.
I've been pretty busy this month on some more work with them.

Having some time away from the piece.. and picking up some new approaches and learning as you go along the way. I thought I would come back to this piece and update it for portfolio.

TheLegend of Ninja Cowboy Bear: Limited on Sale and Signed.

Got a bit of this info to share.

For a short summary for those who have not herd the new of this book.
My Hilary and his friend Dave, had created a childrens book late last year.
It was so well recieved it was picked up by Kid's Can press. (a great success story as well).

so I'm just excited to pass the news below from my friend Hil. (buy it now! First printing LImited and Signed!)

_____________________________________________________________________

A quick update to our Ninja Cowboy Bear subscribers.
As some of you may already know, Kids Can Press has licenced our book and will be promoting it as part of their new fall series. http://www.kidscanpress.com/Canada/The-Legend-of-Ninja-Cowboy-Bear-P5900.aspx
This is great news for us because it means that "The legend of Ninja Cowboy Bear" will be in your local bookstore this fall.
However, this also means that there are now only a dwindling number of the self-published, first editions remaining. No more will be printed! So, for a limited time, we're offering signed copies of the book (first edition) along with a postcard and a high quality vinyl sticker, for the sale price of $12 CAD.
For more information see http://www.ninja-cowboy-bear.com/book/buy.php
