Choose your own adventure Comic. Awesome + some cool vids

I caught this video well getting my fix of www.lowbright.com Derek Kim's web/comic.

The idea behind idea behind this comic, it's brilliant! I love how the comic is presented visually and physically. There's lines that lead to tab (cut into the book!) to reveal where your adventure leads too!!..

Idea behind the comic (writer/artist Jason Shiga).
I had seen him at TCAF.. while getting Derek Kim's autograph... and I regret not spending the time talking to the other artists that day (cutting the trip short running back for mother's day)

Well Here's a Video of Jason Shiga explaing his comic.. coming in 2010. (can't wait to get it)

Jason Shiga @ APE 2009 from Doctor Popular on Vimeo.

My friend David Cho had posted this Video on his Facebook page...
totally in awe of it.. and my friend Brian Wilson... sent it to me today.. remind me I'm such a idiot for not posting this earlier....

and a little more.... (this is better then bullet time!)
the kid is awesome in this... he totally gets into it and pulls off some serious kamen rider moves!

I just realized Nujabes feat are the same guys who did the samurai champloo soundtrack...

samurai champloo (the story/animation is awesome)

Mecha Santa + Tutorial

Man I've had this video sitting around for a bit.
But I've been asked a few times to get a commentary done for the time lapse video.
I had a few hickups with the audio.
But I think I've gotten something now (going to take a while before I get better at this.

I threw the art on a 3d Box I did in 3d studio max.. quickly. I tried to keep it in style to those gundamn kits. I love building those things (although I hate painting models).

Oh and all the videos are in HD quality. so double click it if you want to see it with more clairty.

Mecha Santa from kidchuckle on Vimeo.

or if you prefer youtube (2 parts.. because youtube is lame and you can't go over 10 mins).

hope you've been good

I didn't want to do the usual type of holiday card
so I tried something different for the holiday season.
I squeezed this inbetween gigs.

One Eyed Yeti.

The One Eyed yeti... the idea came from Ryon Xavior http://www.htxbstudio.com/wordpress/ (go check him out.. you gotta check his sculpts.. some crazy stuff).

Unfortunately... I kind of put it off.. but Xavior was sooo patient. And it was in the back of my mind. I didn't want to give him JUST a one eyed yeti..
Tried of thinking of something I could throw on him to make the yeti seem different.

SoOooooooo.......
the little back story I made for this guy... He eats children.. but also hides among them by dressing up as them. *** Gasp *** that's why the Yeti is so hard to find.

good morning daddy

threw this together. I get antsy when waiting for feedback...
so I burn the extra energy by doing something productive.

Thought this one would be fun. A little kid seeing daddy off to work.

Dagonlily

boy insomnia keeps me pretty productive these days....
but I thought it might be fun to draw a character in cosplay... The design is my own...
But I figure if I say its cosplay.. it gives me some fun to mash stuff together.

I dream of

Well I would be dreaming of....
but I have a serious case of insominia tonite. So what I'm doing.. drawing of course.
I had all these little doodles of robots. so I thought I might make into something.
I sometimes do these little cute bots as a exercise for shapes.

Deviant art is also having a contest about dreams.. funny enough.... oh man I wish I could sleep!

Boy this animator sure likes...

The animation for this short is amazing.. all done by one guy.

You'll notice from watching... the animator sure likes ... (you'll find out when you hit play)
自主制作アニメ - フミコの告白 Independent production anime

I found a translation

girl- " um um... please go out with me!"
boy- " sorry, I want to focus on baseball now"
girl-" Takashi is stupid!"

-(end of first conversation) Crazy animation

"Takashi !?"
" ILL MAKE MISO SOUP FOR YOU EVERYDAY!"
boy(takashi)-" sorry, I want to focus on baseball now"
END

one more vid from Production IG (studio)
Beautifully done.. like a moving painting.

Kick Ass

I can't wait to see this movie.
Kick-ass!

If you havn't herd about the comic.. it's about a young teen who decides to become a super hero (in real world rules.. no powers no skills... The only thing he has that makes him stand out from anyone else, is that he has a metal plate in his head from a accident. Funny thing is I knew a kid like that in grade school. He used to take money people by betting who would pass out first from banging their head against the wall.

The comic series is still in production. I believe the last of the issue comes out dec.
It's funny how the comic isn't even finished and it's already been turned into a movie.

Oh yeah also it was filmed in Toronto. Gooooo TO!

Kick-Ass

Recommended Comics and stuff

Picked up American Born Chinese by Gene Yang the other day. (link has many mini reviews)
Has a story that I can relate to when I was growing up.

There's also a daily comic by Derek Kim. Check it out here. Check out his illustrator journals.. I practically pee my pants reading his work.

I picked up creature box volume 2.

and Travis Charest sketchbook 2009 which you can also get at http://animationroadshow.blogspot.com

Halloween invasion

A little something retroish for halloween.
I really love those old school posters. I finished this weeks ago.. but held off on posting this.
The lighting was fun to try out.

Halloween what to wear

I had this idea of mashing up a few costumes together.. that I couldn't get out of my head till I scribbled it down.
kind of a best of the "bargain bin of costumes"

If you're having trouble which movies these are from.
1 Starwars (thats DannyChoo.com also of tokyostormtrooper)

2 Game of Death (yes I know its from Kill Bill too.. but in Kill Bill did it in homage to
Bruce Lee's game of death. I'll be really upset if you've never herd of it!

Yellow Chucks are from

(thats where the foot print comes from! If there's someone out there that can make a shirt with a yellow stripes on the side and a Giant foot on the front.. I would be sold on getting that!)

3) Batman (notice the cape and ears)

Silicon+Zombies+Subway

It's almost Halloween. Probably my favorite theme to draw.
As a warm up... I thought I would do a exercise in lighting. Do something that's simple (rather then full on paint). But then it kind turned into something I could animate.
Mind you I would never call myself a animator. I tried it.. and I have no sense of timing.
But I took a shot and here's what I got.

Toronto: Videogame Industry + Ubisoft

Well the news of Ubisoft coming to Toronto is old news right now.
But it's interesting topic that I've had with friends in and out of the gaming industry.

On the news it seems very focused on Ubisoft alone. but I'm more interested what will happen because of Ubisoft's move here. Will more larger gaming companies come to Toronto? I just hope with Ubisoft coming into the picture, it will give that Fire Toronto needs to have a more healthy Gaming Development Industry. (more companies to start here, and business opportunities etc).

Well anyways the article below explains it way better then I could sum it up.

Article is from the Examiner

    Atom Eve: Invincible

Atom Eve from INvincible. (one of the best comics out there... another favorite of mine Walking Dead and Y the lastman).

Franchesco last month talked to me about doing a collab(to colour his fantastic line work) All I can tell you I was felt so honoured and freaked out about it (well I love Franchesco's art.. so I was nervous as heck).

But last month I was swamped with work and wasn't able to touch it until yesterday.

    Just a little back story.
I first layed eyes on Franchesco's art on She-Dragon special by Image comics. I think this might have been in 06 or 05.
After buying the comic, I jumped on my computer to find out who this guy was cause I wanted to see more of this fantastic work!
I found nothing... until 09, I had found him on DA.

After finding him and more of his work... I also found out how cool he is after sending a couple of message and notes.

But I'd like to Thank Franchesco for asking me to colour his work... It was a thrill!

Dungeon and Dragons : part 2

    sept has gone by quickly.
I havn't updated in such long while on my own art. Been bogged down with a few projects.
I developed some weird callous on my wrist and thumb.. its kind of gross.
I was going to take a picture of it... but I rather not gross out anyone.

Anyways, I had a done a few a illustration for Dungeon and Dragons a few months back. I had forgotten to post them.

It's funny after being away from a painting for so long. I had other ideas of how I would do it differently.

    but here they are.

    I wish I had a Iphone

I'm not much of a cel phone person. Yeah I have one...
yeah I call people.. yeah I use it for work.

For me the Iphone is just a nice toy...
yeah kind of neat stuff on there.

There was nothing that shouted to me.. I NEED THIS.

One of my friends Syd works at Alias and worked on this app. I didn't have a Iphone so I kind of ignored following up on it....
but after seeing this video.. . HOLY CRAP

I mean I usually have a sketchbook on me.. but you know for those days where you just itching to draw but don't have a pen or no napkin to doodle on.......

Feeling Inspired and amazed (whippish back to work)

A couple of neat videos to share, since I have no artwork that i can show right now.. and I'm just keeping my head above water for now.

    A little something to inspire
I happened to catch this on drawn.ca
I thought the use of cardboard was brilliant...

-song by They might be giants.

    http://drawn.ca/2009/09/03/they-might-be-giants-electric-car/

And this is a little something for fascination i have with mechanics and robots.
(i'm kind of curious why the narrator switches from a british accent to a north american accent)
I really like how each of the end fingers can be adapted and angled accordingly to be used like a thumb (it's a lefty and a righty all in one!

this one has some really dynamic motion (thought this was really impressive)

    now back to work.

    Renderfist Fanexpo Photos

Oh man what a crazy couple of days.

I want to thank my table mates at Renderfist for being so patient with me.
Craig Adams , Charlene Chua, Ted Kim, Sanford Kong, Hilary Leung
I was a bit stressed out the first day, making sure everyone got their passes, and finding enough chairs ( someone stole our chair!).

I think it was probably the nonstop bunch of laughs. Although it was terribly draining. I'm exhausted but I'm back to work today.
I'm updating this blog between drawings.

After reviewing the last few days, all I can think of is the non stop of laughs. Although it was terribly draining (how does Bobby Chiu and Kei and his crew do it?). I'm exhausted but I'm back to work today.
I'm updating this blog between drawings.

We had some cool cats around our table. And did some balloon volleyball... people around us like
Jason Loo, Evan Munday and Mark Mcdonnell who sat behind us, FYI he's a DISNEY ANIMATOR!!!!! flew from LA for Fanexpo!).

I think we had lot of energy at our table, talking to each other and the attendees at the Fanexpo.

Some really memorable quotes from the top of my mind (I won't reveal the names so I don't embarrass anybody exclusively).

    First quote
Renderfist Rep 3- " Hey you like C*****s, N****s, and B***s right?" to patron
    patron "Uh no"
Renderfist Rep 3 "then you like girls right?" Points to prints done by "Renderfist Rep 2"
patron -confused and stunned " uhhh...."

    Second Quote
Patron 1 is holding book and wondering if they should by it.

Renderfist rep 3 -" Look at this book, I worked on this. I laboured on this. This is my baby!!!!"

Renderfist rep 1 quickly jumps in "YES! YOU CAN HAVE HIS BABY!!! Don't you want his Baby!!!"

    Patron Stunned.. and laughs

    Third Quote
    Conversation goes on with Renderfist rep1 + 2 + 3.
Renderfist rep 4 "hey did you just say smoke free ovaries"

    Day 1

One of the happy faces that I was first to recognise was Marvin Law He also happens to be.... I forget how we're related? Either very distant family or friend of the family... I have no idea.. but its a complicated story and It's too long to write about it.

here's pics of us below setting up the table

    Craig Yeung
who came running over to find us to say Hello
I managed to stop by Craig's table to say Hello to Logan Luberia and Lisa Luberia they still look the same).

The rest of the day was just trying to get settled in to the con. I was amazed how busy it was. I havn't been to Fanexpo in 10, I had no idea how big it grew!

    Day 2
This day was interesting. It was really packed and packed Fast!
with our Exhibition pass we were able to skip a long line up.
I was informed by long time Rick Lapointe and his Girl friend Sam that the line up was 2 3 hrs waiting time to get in the exhibition. Silly me forgot to take a pic of these cool cats. They went out of their way to find me first thing when they got there!
    You guys rock!

Ted helping setup Sanford's portfolio. (The very Mysterious Sanford!)

    Ted and some friends.

One of the coolest ladies that came by the booth.
She had this really cool shirt!
Not only did she come by once... I think total she came by 4 or 5 times total during the whole convention.
For a moment I assumed she was a stalker... until she happily decided to buy some prints from me on the last day at the last hour.

A little bit of a view of the expo

managed to get Some crazy Cosplay. I've seen cosplay on the net.. but I've never really seen it happen in real life. some really crazy and well put together costume. thats really hardcore fandom.
Here's some that passed by our table

    Castle Crashers!

    Little Link

Getta beam!!!!!!! I was a little surprised at this fan, he was barely 18 I think? pretty crazy considering getter robo came out in the 70's (even before I was born).

In the early morning before the exhibition we quickly ran around to meet the other artists, we ran into the talented Hyein lee
She was so incredibly sweet, she later ran over to our table at the end of the day and gave us these sweet buttons!

We also got to meet Mark Rehkoph
also would like to say Thanks to Ferd Poblete
who came by every day to say hi in the morning and afternoon to share some cool demon girl drawings.

    some more Cosplay people!!!!

Ted's Super Heroines in civilian clothes!
I pointed out that their superhero costumes were great, but they need to work on keeping their identies a secret better.
